GrCI Serves the Printing, Packaging, Imaging and Publishing IndustryThe Graphic Communication Institute at Cal Poly (GrCI) is an outreach effort of the university’s Graphic Communication department, created to provide industry professionals with access to Cal Poly’s state-of-the-art resources via workshops, custom training programs, consulting, laboratory testing and research initiatives GrCI educational programs involve the participation of Cal Poly faculty, leading industry experts and advanced students from the Graphic Communication program. Classes make use of our dedicated training lab as well Cal Poly's extensive, state-of-the-art prepress imaging and press room production facilities. Education includes prepress and print training; graphic arts research; ink, toner, and substrate testing; as well as training in project management, quality control, marketing, sales, pricing, estimating and more. Located on the campus of California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in sunny San Luis Obispo, California, the Graphic Communication Institute is a unique facility designed to support education in the graphic arts industry. The GrCI was established in July of 2001. The Institute, like Cal Poly, promotes the idea that people learn by doing. GrCI workshops are heavily geared for hands-on learning.
